Next week the Scholastics Travelling Book Fair will be arriving at Dean Park!
What is a Book Fair?
A Book Fair is a pop-up book shop that brings the very best in children’s books to your school. It’s a great opportunity to create a school-wide reading focus and build a buzz about books for the children – as well as to earn free books and resources for your school.
The books: hundreds to choose from
Every Book Fair is packed with hundreds of the best children’s books for all ages – from award-winners and the newest titles to pocket-money pick-ups and treasured classics.
The range includes picture books, early readers, chapter books, books for reluctant readers, older fiction, non-fiction, home learning and lots more.
Boost your school budget with a Book Fair
Every book sold at your Book Fair helps to earn Rewards that you can spend on free books† and resources for your classrooms and library. Each year, Travelling Books helps to donates £10 million worth of free books to schools across the UK and Ireland. As an example, for every £10 that you spend, your school can earn up to £6 back in Rewards to spend to refresh the range of children’s books in your classrooms.
How do we buy books?
Each class will be given the opportunity during Book Week to browse the selection of books on offer. Children can take note of a book or books they would like using the supplied order forms, and if parents would like to buy this book for their child (and please note it is entirely optional) they can send in money with their child, or they can view and pay for the book/s during the Parent Consultations on Wednesday and Thursday evening. There will be further slots parents can attend the Book Fair and these will be issued shortly.
There will not be a facility for card payment, but cash and cheques are accepted. Cheques should be made payable to Dean Park Primary School.
Who will be running the Book Fair?
A small number of staff and P7 pupils will be helping to run the Fair, however we would welcome additional support from parent volunteers, to ensure the Fair runs as efficiently as possible.
This can be as much or as little as one can manage over the week, and any help is greatly appreciated. There will be timetabled slots for classes across the week and we are also hopeful we can open the Book Fair during the Parent Consultations (29th and 30th November).
If you can spare some time during Book Week please contact Miss Thomson, P5B and indicate what day/times you would be able to help. Thank you.
