A heartfelt thank you!

Our sincerest thanks and gratitude to the 100+ volunteers – parents, staff and children – who came to help clear the snow at Dean Park earlier today.

Special acknowledgement to our janitor, Mr Fraser, for travelling in from West Lothian to clear the annexe as well as vast areas of the primary school.

A phenomenal response from our school community, which resulted in all areas being cleared of snow and gritted, making it safe for our pupils ‘hopefully’ returning to school tomorrow. In the words of Mrs Shanks, “you are all heroes”.

As it is still snowing (!), a risk assessment will be carried out first thing in the morning to confirm the school’s status for opening. Please note that Dean Park Primary is a priority for Edinburgh Council.

We must stress that if school does re-open on Monday 5th, is it NOT accessible for cars. There are no places to park or pull in safely in the surrounding streets. Parking is available in the upper and lower Scotmid carparks should you have to travel from outside Balerno. If it is not safe for you to drive to Balerno, do not travel.

The paths around the village are mostly cleared, however we ask that you take your time in getting to school, to ensure the pupils’ safe arrival. Lateness is expected.

Please ensure children are appropriately dressed and bring spare socks and indoor shoes. Snow play on the fields and grass areas will be allowed.

Thank you to you all again.
