Friday’s Dean Park’s Got Talent provided the perfect platform to showcase the diverse range of skills and talents our pupils hold.
Organised by our P7 Pupil Leadership Team, 63 children from P1 to P7 made it through to Friday’s final, and each in turn bravely took to the stage and treated the audience – the entire school – to performances in dance, music, comedy, acting and singing.
Judging the competition were our very own Mrs Shanks and Mrs Buchanan, and Balerno High School’s Mr Simon May. To the children’s delight Mrs Shanks renamed the panel: herself – Will I. Am, Mrs Buchanan – Cheryl Cole and Mr May – Simon Cowell. The resemblances were uncanny.
From ballet to street dance, bagpipes to drums, magicians to ventriloquists and singers to actors, it was a hugely entertaining morning. The acts were engaging, jaw-dropping, funny, moving and most of all, inspiring. The audience were respectful and very appreciative.
Despite their experience in the field, Will, Cheryl and Simon found the task of selecting winners extremely difficult. After a few nail-biting minutes whilst the judges deliberated, the winners were announced and met with a rapturous cheer from the audience.
1st – Robert D (comedy)
2nd – Olivia S and Lily (singing)
3rd – Grant S (piano)
1st – Layla D (ballet)
2nd – Grace R (singing)
3rd – Emmy K (ventriloquy)
Congratulations to the winners and to all the children for taking part and inspiring your peers and teachers.
Enormous thanks to our P7 Pupil Leadership Team for orchestrating the event, with special acknowledgement to Iona, Isla, Beth, Ella, Tom H and Peter F, on their fantastic event management and compering of the show. We couldn’t have done a better job ourselves.
