P1-P7 Sports Days Round Up!

For the first time in as many years we were blessed with 3 beautiful Fridays for our 3 consecutive sports days.

Sports Day is a day to celebrate and display the skills the children have learned and developed throughout the year, in particular the summer term.  Adding a little competitive edge, the children take part in their houses – Harlaw, Johnsburn, Pilmuir and Ravelrig, and it was wonderful to see so many children wear their house colours which most definitely added to the colourful atmosphere.

Each sports day followed the same format – a morning of rotational sport activities such as netball, javelin, egg and spoon, football dribbling, speed bounce etc, followed by the flat races, where the children raced in their year group and house.

The sunshine most definitely made all the difference to the children’s enjoyment from the event, and even when temperatures soared, the children still behaved extremely well and we’re very proud of them for this and on their terrific sporting endeavours!

We are also immensely proud of the different year groups who assisted with each of the sports days, running their activities with enthusiasm and efficiency, and encouraging and praising the participants all the while on their efforts.

Enormous gratitude to our PTA for helping to make each of our sports days a special occasion, with the colourful bunting around the sports field, arranging an external coffee van to supply the caffeine-deficient, providing refreshments and nibbles at break time, keeping the children hydrated with jugs of water – and for providing every single pupil with a piece of fruit and chocolate bar or packet of sweets at the end.

Thank you to our parents, grandparents and families who turned out in large numbers to support and encourage the children; it made all the difference having you there.

It’s the turn of our nursery classes this Friday, and we wish them lots of fun and sunshine in their mini Olympics.
