Following the success of last year’s “Playing Out” pilot scheme, which allowed residents to restrict traffic on their street to enable children’s play events to take place, the City of Edinburgh Council have decided to continue with the scheme, renamed Edinburgh Play Streets.
A consultation exercise followed the Playing Out scheme, and respondents overwhelmingly felt the sessions had:-
– given children a safe and beneficial opportunity to play (90%)
– resulted in children making new friends (83%)
– increased children’s sense of belonging in the community (88%)
– fostered increased community connections between different generations (90%)
