Seven Dean Park pupils – Ellie, Naomi, Emilie, Ruari, Rory, Josh and Aidan – all represented the school at the prestigious Edinburgh and Midlothian Schools Annual Swim Championship, on Sunday 18th November at Ainslie Park.
To be eligible to take part swimmers must meet the extremely fast times, so qualifying for the competition is an achievement in itself. As the name suggests the event is open to all primary schools – state and private – from across the city, so competition is fierce.
This notwithstanding, Dean Park held their own comfortably in the pool, bringing home 3 gold medals and one bronze medal! Several personal best times were also achieved. A tremendous result!
Many congratulations to Ellie, Josh and Aidan in their victorious swims: Ellie won gold in two events, the 50m Freestyle and the 50m Breaststroke, Josh won gold in the boys 50m breaststroke and Aidan bronze in the same event. Naomi was pipped by milliseconds to a bronze medal in the 50m backstroke.
To give you a sense of context, Ellie came first out of 53 competitors, with a staggering swim time for 50m freestyle of 30:74 seconds. Outstanding!
Emilie, our youngest swimmer and first timer at the competition, swam magnificently placing 33 out of 53 in the 50 freestyle event.
Huge well done to the entire team for their outstanding performance and wonderful team spirit. They were a credit to the school.
Ellie and Josh will now go forward to the Scottish Schools Championships in January.
