If any group deserves their holiday this Friday, it must be the Dean Park School Choir.
Testament to their popularity, the choir were invited to perform at several community Christmas events, this in addition to their school commitments.
Their singing helped light up Balerno’s Main Street at the switching on of the village’s Christmas Lights, and two days later they were scheduled to entertain Edinburgh’s Lord Provost at Balerno’s Christmas Farmer’s Market, however due to timing issues it was sadly not feasible for this to go ahead.
Yesterday, P5 and P7 choir members, sang to a delightful audience at the PALM Cafe’s Christmas Party and brightened up the room with their Christmas songs and colourful Christmas attire.
The highlight of the performance was their final song, The 12 Days of Christmas, which had the audience singing and joining in all the actions. It brought a lot of cheer and laughter.
On Friday the Choir provided the opening act for each of the nativity performances, singing for parents, family members and invited guests as they entered the main hall.
And if they’ve not run out of steam, this Thursday sees the last of their Christmas engagements with their festive Singalong, open to their families, to come along and join in the singing extravanganza!
Of course none of this happens on its own; it requires significant organisation and countless rehearsals, and we are hugely grateful to Mrs Gartside for all her efforts and affording our children all these wonderful experiences and opportunities. Very well done to the Choir for their endless enthusiasm and passion for singing. We hope it never wanes!
