At Dean Park we welcome parents to come and help in school, and there are many and varied opportunities across the year which benefit tremendously from your input. Some parents come in regularly at a set time each week, others come when they can. Many of the activities the children currently enjoy would not be possible without this voluntary help.
Parent helpers can assist in the classroom or activity areas but always under the direction of the class teacher, can help with the ongoing maintenance of the Eco garden or raised beds, can provide additional support during rehearsals for school plays and concerts or simply help with general administration or creative tasks.
Each year we hold special weeks and days which are linked to specific aspects of the curriculum, and we welcome all help offered with this. Details of these events are published in advance and if you wish to volunteer help during one of these, please contact the school office.
When a class goes out on a school trip or visit, we ask for parent helpers to accompany the children. This helps us maintain the correct adult to child ratios. Class teachers will ask for volunteers when they write to parents informing them of the planned trip. You should contact your class teacher if you wish to help.
We invite parents or carers with a specific skill or interest to come and share their knowledge with a class.
If you are interested in becoming a parent helper, please contact the office (0131 449 4529 or email@example.com) and indicate the day/time you are available. Session times and classes where support is welcomed are flexible, and any offer of help would be most appreciated.
Parents who help on a regular basis in school are required to submit to a full check being carried out by Disclosure Scotland.
